Introduction To The Center
Founded in 2001, the Patient Safety Research Center
has been contributing towards reducing the huge national burden of medical
errors through the creation of local cultures of safety through educational
and research programs. These programs use innovative methodologies of
collaborative multidisciplinary team-based safety measurement and enhancement.
Several manuscripts have been published and numerous presentations have
been given at national and international meetings, including an award-winning
presentation in the Center’s first year of existence. We have made
several invited presentations in Europe and the USA. Through these efforts,
the Patient Safety Research Center has become internationally recognized
for its research and development activities that are viewed as being the
cutting edge. The Director and Associate Director have been invited to
serve as Consultants to national and international task forces on medical
errors in primary care. The center has been awarded research grants from
various national foundations and training grants (at both Pre-Doc and
Residency levels) from the Dept. of Health and Human Services. In addition,
the Center is competing strongly and successfully for funding from Agency
for Health Research and Quality (AHRQ) and National Institute of Health
(NIH).
